What will happen when The Vampire Diaries meets The Originals for an epic crossover battle between Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and his big bad hybrid maker Klaus? Once again, interesting alliances will be formed — and new motives will be revealed.

Tyler arrives in New Orleans in Episode 7 (“Bloodletting”) of the spinoff series, on a mission to enact revenge against Klaus for the murder of his mother. Will Tyler be an all-out villain on The Originals, or just another morally ambiguous player in the French Quarter mix?

Joseph Morgan (Klaus Mikaelson) told TV Line that Tyler would a “a little different” than the hybrid we’re used to seeing on TVD: “They’ve really turned him into this guy with nothing to lose. And the tone of our show, anyway, is more adult. …So [Tyler] really comes into this absolutely reckless and fearless [as] someone who’s lost everything.”

However, Michael thinks Tyler’s persona will be more in line with a version of the conflicted character we saw in Season 1, who he describes as someone who “wasn’t really a nice guy.” Ugh. Unfortunately, we agree with that description. But, according to JoMo, that does not necessarily make Tyler a villain on The Originals.

“It depends on how you look at it... I don’t think Tyler’s necessarily the villain, but he is as layered a character as Klaus or Marcel. They’ve given us reasons to root for him.”
