After that pool scene in Season 1, Episode 6: “Fruit of the Poisoned Tree” of The Originals, we’re totally shipping Original vamp Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and feisty werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) together. (OK, we may have shipped them before that.) But what about Daniel and Phoebe? How do they feel about the potential on-screen romance between their characters?

“I think it's a really nice bond at the moment and they're still being very careful," Phoebe told E! Online. "Obviously, she's pregnant with his brother's child and she's not trying to get herself in a situation between two brothers or anything right now … It's all very innocent right now and kind of glances. There's obviously chemistry between the two of them, but they don't really want to act on it or know what the chemistry is."

So, it sounds like the two are making the decision to ignore said “chemistry” at the moment, but how long can they resist the pull? According to Daniel, it will only get stronger as the shows progresses.

"It seems like the more that they try and resist it, the more that it snowballs. It will be interesting to see where that develops to, because I sense him—at the moment in the scripts—pulling away really hard, which can signify one of two things: one, that he's either really going to jump in with both feet or he's gonna wrench himself away from it. I don't know, but they are definitely magnetically drawn to one another."

We’d say Elijah utilized the “jump in with both feet” method when responding to the witches who threatened Hayley’s life, and we wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually gives in to his feelings. We also wouldn’t be surprised if Klaus goes postal when he does, given that he’s already shown irritation at the chemistry between his big brother and the mother of his child.

Regarding the Klaus factor, Daniel said, “We'll absolutely make reference to the fact that you might think that [Elijah]'s the father with the way that he's acting. That's a lot of fun. I think that was a really fair decision from the writers to create that romantic tension between those two characters because that really messes with Klaus." Phoebe added: "Klaus isn't used to not getting what he wants, not that he thinks he wants Hayley, but I don't think he'd like to see his brother take the mother of his child away." Word. If these two do eventually get together — which we think they will — they’d better have some escape plans ready.

Do you think Hayley and Elijah will succomb to their feelings? Do you want them to? How do you think Klaus will react? Sound off in the comments below!
