Last night’s action-packed episode of The Originals Season 1, Episode 7: “Bloodletting” — saw the series’s first crossover with source material, The Vampire Diaries. Basically, Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) came to New Orleans to pick a fight with Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), culminating in a tense, rageful battle. What did Michael make JoMo do before filming the climactic battle scene?

“Fun fact:  That scene you just saw took place right after lunch.  I made Joseph Morgan pop some mints. #toocloseforcomfort,” Michael tweeted last night while The Originals was airing. Hilarious! And, we totally understand Michael’s methods. Tyler and Klaus got pretty close while trading physical and verbal blows. Also, while Klaus was trying to decide whether or not to rip Ty’s heart out — spoiler alert, he didn’t.

We hope there is the need for many more breath mints in JoMo’s future. Not only because we were totally glued to the screen during Klaus and Tyler’s confrontation, but because we’re hoping Tyler’s ex-girlfriend and the object of Klaus’ affections, Caroline, will eventually make the crossover trip from TVD to The Originals, too. Especially because Klaus seems in serious need of both a friend and a smack to the head. She seems the ideal character to deliver on both. Though, in the mean time, local bartender psychologist Cami might do in a pinch...

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
