Sure, Joseph Morgan is the poster boy for The Originals, but we’re putting him aside to take a look at Daniel Gillies, who has been wowing us since he came on the scene in Season 2 of The Vampire Diaries. Now that he’s a leading man on the supernatural spin-off, it’s time to do a double-take of our favorite Canadian-born, New Zealand-raised stud.

Check out the five things you should know about the Originals star and then hit the comments to let us know how much you love Daniel.

1. His life is pretty much perfect (no, really!).

Not only has Daniel been married to the lovely Rachael Leigh Cook since 2004, but the couple recently welcomed their first child into the world. Back in September 2013, Charlotte Easton Gillies was born, and Daniel went from being just a hot actor to a hot daddy. That adds a whole new level of attractiveness, doesn’t it? He has a perfect family and a perfect career. His life is perfect. Oh, and did we mention he likes to sing and dance with little Charlotte? Start swooning!

2. He’s a total romantic.

Since Daniel and Rachael have been married for almost 10 years, they are overcoming the dreaded Hollywood divorce trend on a daily basis. How does Daniel keep his relationship with his lady going strong? “I think couples should sort of worship one another in a sense and understand that that person is your teacher for the rest of your life, whether you like it or not,” Daniel gushed to About.com. “That’s a difficult pill to swallow for a lot of people because it becomes about dominating the other one or character assassination or usurping the power from another person.”

3. He’s a Bollywood star.

OK, so Daniel hasn’t lived in India and actually joined in on the Bollywood life, but he has appeared in one of the most popular Bollywood movies in the United States. Back in 2004, Daniel played Johnny Wickham in Bride & Prejudice, a Bollywood retelling of the Jane Austen novel Pride and Prejudice. If you thought the Victorian setting of the classic novel was too drab, give this colorful production a chance!

4. He could have been a doctor.

While Daniel never studied medicine, he does come from a long line of doctors. Daniel’s father was a pediatrician, his mother was a nurse, and his great great great grandfather was renowned ENT/plastic surgery pioneer Sir Harold Gillies. Luckily, Daniel escaped that family history and became a thespian!

5. He thinks Elijah needs to get laid.

His on-screen counterpart, Elijah Mikaelson, is known for being a stand-up gentleman with a strong moral code (something the other characters are lacking) and an affinity for well-tailored suits. And while we’re finally seeing Elijah get some love from Hayley Marshall (Phoebe Tonkin) on The Originals, Daniel has a strong opinion about his character. “He’s too horny,” Daniel told Digital Spy. “At first, I was really concerned that the way I was playing him, he would read asexual. I was really concerned that people would be like, 'Oh, he's not a sexual guy at all'. And then there were rumors that maybe he's gay at one point, which I thought was really funny.” Hopefully Elijah will get lucky sometime soon!
