If you haven’t heard, The Originals is killing it in the ratings (and, in our humble opinion, creatively). But, when does executive producer Julie Plec claim she knew it was a hit? Check out her humorous tweet sent out after last night’s gripping midseason finale!

“Well, it appears The Originals must be a hit --- the hostile shipper hate tweets have started,” Julie tweeted, making us giggle.

There was definitely some serious smoldering in Season 1, Episode 9 (“Reigning Pain in New Orleans”). Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) shared an almost-kiss moment, as did Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Cami (Leah Pipes). We’re guessing the hostile shipper tweets skewed towards the latter “development” as the number of fans who ship Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) and Klaus together despite their currently being on different shows is expansive — or, at least passionate and vocal. We’re still not sure exactly how Klaus feels about Cami, but — especially after watching last night’s ep — we think he cares about his “‘devoted’ stenographer.”

There was also some romantic fallout for Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) in last night’s ep. They started the episode strong, if not clandestinely — Rebekah begging Marcel to play the part of Klaus’s friend to keep himself alive — and ended with Marcel choosing Klaus’s love over Rebekah’s. Poor girl.

Even if there was some blowback from unhappy shippers, last night’s The Originals’ was definitely a success. Basically, the TVD spin-off is a large part of The CW’s recent rally in ratings. Keep it up, Mikaelsons!
