It’s quite an accomplishment landing on one hit CW show, but you know you’ve made it when you’ve graced the presence of three! Phoebe Tonkin has captivated audiences as Faye Chamberlain on The Secret Circle and Hayley Marshall on The Vampire Diaries and The Originals. But which character is far superior than the other? Read on to see our opinion!

Hayley Marshall

Right from the get-go, fans of The Vampire Diaries were angry with Hayley. This lone werewolf was brought to Mystic Falls by Tyler Lockwood (Michael Trevino) and was instantly a stick of dynamite between the hybrid and his girlfriend, the sassy and lovable Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola). Getting in the middle of our beloved Forwood was one thing, but later, when she had a drunken night with Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), she was messing with one of our favorite shippers of all time: Klaroline. Two strikes, girl!

Now that she’s over on The Originals, we’ve grown to enjoy Hayley a lot more. Sure, she’s still pretty annoying and hasn’t really been developing like the other characters, but her relationship with Elijah Mikaelson (Daniel Gillies) is something we can definitely get behind — especially that pool scene. Swoon! She’s carrying one supernatural being’s baby and falling in love with his brother, so we suspect her story is going to start heating up in the second half of Season 1.

That being said, her lack of decision-making and dull start has sealed her fate (at least for now), and we have to say that Faye is definitely eclipsing Hayley.

Faye Chamberlain

Faye Chamberlain, equal parts misunderstood and firecracker, was entertaining us long before Hayley stepped on the scene. This teenage witch — not to be confused with Davina or Sabrina — was a tortured girl who discovered she and her friends were a coven of witches. Not only that, but there were supernatural forces who were itching to take their power.

Add in the fact that her former on-again, off-again boyfriend Jake Armstrong (Chris Zylka) was teetering on the cusp between good and evil and that her mom was trying to use her to get her powers back, this high schooler had a lot going on.

But unlike Hayley, Faye was never afraid to make decisions. Sure, homegirl was often blinded by power and seemed to rule with either her head or her heart — hardly ever both. But at least she was a complex individual with real problems and a real character arc, something Hayley hopefully put on her list of resolutions for the New Year.
