The tables turn so quickly on The Originals, one would think it was a game of roulette. Each new episode brings a multitude of new alliances, and its winter premiere (Season 1, Episode 10 — “The Casket Girls”) was no exception.

Despite their inherent dislike for one another, Marcel teamed up to Elijah to make sure Klaus didn’t make any defensive plays when it came to finding Davina (spoiler alert: he did). But it was Rebekah who stepped up to the plate in this episode, conspiring with Thierry in the Garden. Her plan? To take back New Orleans from Klaus and Marcel. You know what they say, boys: hell hath no fury like a vampire barbie scorned.

But they weren’t the only ones to make surprising alliances. Hayley, quite literally stuck in casa de Klaus, made a deal with Sophie — yes, she’s still on this show — to lift the curse on her werewolf bloodline. The exchange was simple, really. In exchange for lifting the curse on the crescent wolf bloodline, Sophie needed Hayley’s help in completing the Harvest. How? By conjuring up a sizable amount of magic from Elijah’s dearly departed lover Celeste’s body. (So yes, in addition to being a drunk, now Sophie is a grave robber.)

Hayley’s mission was to find where Elijah buried Celeste’s body all those decades ago. After some snooping in Elijah’s belongings, Hayley discovers that Elijah buried his love “far from the mayhem of witches, vampires, and men” — aka between two random oak trees. In order to help narrow down her location, Sophie ask for her ancestors to do her a solid, and voilà, she follows the wind in the right direction.

But while Sophie’s busy digging up Celeste’s body, Hayley and Elijah make an unsettling discovery in Davina’s wicked drawings. It turns out Davina wasn’t just scribbling her angsty feelings on paper, she was drawing a face — Celeste’s face! This means whatever Sophie is about to dig up isn’t good. In fact, Celeste DuBois is downright sinister, and Davina’s drawings foretold her arrival in the French Quarter. Something tells us she’s not going to be happy to see Klaus back on the throne.

We’re happy The Originals is adding a new villain into the mix because right now, they’ve pretty much alienated Klaus (rightfully so — his trust issues are starting to border on whiny). But turning Celeste into the new Big Bad (presumably), it sets up a way for our crew to all begrudgingly work together. However, with the amount of back stabbing going on around the Quarter, the idea of togetherness is almost laughable. Of course, we’re not entirely sure how Celeste is going to fit into the big picture — perhaps, she’s the weapon the witches need to finally stop being so pathetic. Seriously, aren’t these witches supposed to be badass? Why didn’t they all start using their magic once they realized Davina was gone? More power is better, right? Then again, Davina may be one little witch, but when it comes to the power festering inside of her, she’s pretty much unstoppable — as seen when she snapped Sabine and Co.’s necks with the flick of her wrist. And did you see the way she took out Klaus and Elijah when her man Tim was being held hostage? The girl was on fire!

Speaking of Davina, we’re starting to grow fond of the little witch, especially with Rebekah as her de facto fairy tale godmother. It’s hard not to see the likeness between Davina and Rebekah — both girls were hopeless romantics who were taken advantage of by the men they thought they could trust most. Oh, and now both have lost at least one love interest at Klaus’s hand.

Klaus, being the kind of man that he is, made a backup plan just in case Davina didn’t listen to reason and return to Klaus and Marcel’s regime. So when Davina failed to comply to Klaus’s terms, and instead “killed” Klaus and Elijah (Rebekah happily took out Marcel), he made sure he had all of his bases covered if need be. So he gave Tim poisonous water and compelled him to get Davina to drink it if they were to escape — and he did.

But luckily for Davina (and not-so-luckily for Tim), Marcel and Elijah were already one step ahead of Klaus. Knowing that Klaus would want Davina dead, Marcel forced Sabine — who survived Davina’s gruesome attack by casting a survival spell on herself beforehand — to cast a survival spell on Davina. So just when it looks like she’s a goner, she is revived! Sadly, Tim is not, and poor Davina suffers her first heartbreak at the hands of Klaus. The sorrowful look in Rebekah’s eyes says it all.

Once again, the Mikaelsons are divided. Klaus is alone — only this time, he put himself there — while Marcel and Elijah form an alliance to look after Davina. As for Rebekah, well, she’s setting her own plan in motion to take down Klaus and Marcel with a little help from Marcel’s former confidante Thierry. And something tells us she’s going to use the dirt she has on Marcel to do it.

All of this flip-flopping is making our heads spin, so as of now, we’re declaring ourselves Team Josh. Let’s face it: Josh is honestly the best new character on The Originals, and it’s a shame he hasn’t been developed more. His friendship with Davina is one of the best things on the series. In fact, Josh is so loyal to Davina that he told her to go ahead a kill Klaus, even though he knew he’d die along with him. Plus, his humor is desperately needed on this show.

$#*! Vampires Says

“All knocked up and nowhere to go.” — Hayley at her sarcastic best.

“You and Klaus are best friends again. You’ve relinquished your right to touch me.” — Rebekah should have been Scary Spice.

“Can I suggest to take a step back?” — Elijah being a BAMF.

“Just give me two minutes. It’s my gynocologist.” — Hayley is starting to grow on us.

“Klaus, hey… whaddup? I just moved to Turkey. Weirdly, they don’t eat Turkey here.” — Josh being the cutest.

“Are you really sure you want to mess with the baddest dude in all of history?” — This is how Josh describes Klaus.

“Have you met his nightwalkers? Not the brightest assortment.” — Elijah is just keeping it real.

“Silence is golden, Timothy. Thank you.” — Oh, Klaus.

“Hurting people is such a boyish thing to do.” — Rebekah Mikaelson, President of the "I Hate Men" Club.

“Well, isn’t this monumentally awkward.” — Elijah's signature humor.

“The stench of your judgement is overwhelming.” — Klaus, just being Klaus.
