In true Julie Plec fashion, The Originals roared back to life from its long hiatus with an action-packed midseason premiere with Season 1, Episode 10 (“The Casket Girls”). We already knew to expect a female-centric episode, but we didn’t expect heartbreak to make its way into tonight’s episode.

With Davina (Danielle Campbell) having escaped Klaus’ (Joseph Morgan) fortress of solitude in the French District, she was busy de-compelling Cami (Leah Pipes) and hanging out with her bestie, Josh (Steven Krueger). With all of Team Mikaelson out to find her and alliances quickly shifting, we knew things were going to get messy pretty fast.

When it was revealed that Klaus had captured Davina’s love interest, Tim (Shane Coffey), our hearts started racing. Luckily Rebekah (Claire Holt) revealed herself to be an ally for Davina — sticking true to the girl power feel of the episode — and helped her and Tim escape Klaus’ grip. While in The Garden, Tim offered Davina some water, only to learn that Klaus had seen this far in advance and had poisoned the water in order to kill Davina — and Tim — if she escaped his control.

Rebekah tried to reason with Klaus to save Davina and Tim, but come to find out, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) had taken the appropriate steps to ensure Davina would survive a near-death experience. Our heads were spinning. So while Davina ended up recovering from the poison, Tim did not. Davina became an emotional wreck.

When Rebekah emerged from The Garden carrying a sleeping Davina, she handed her over to Marcel. He asked how Davina was doing and Rebekah replied, “she’s devastated and exhausted.” Sounds about right. We can’t believe Klaus tried to kill Davina and did kill Tim — they are just teenagers, after all.

Were you surprised that Tim died? What did you think about the crazy turn of events? Hit the comments and let us know!

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
