The producers’ promo for The Originalsnext all-new episode — Season 1, Episode 12 (“Dance Back From the Grave”) — is a treasure trove of clues on the next chapter of The Originals story. And we can’t wait to watch it unfold! Check out this short video of executive producers Michael Narducci and Julie Plec dishing on the next act of their supernatural saga: the “badass witch chapter.”

The promo gives us a glimpse into Episode 12 with a snippet that seems to come right before this sneak peek: a conversation between Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) on the failed Harvest ritual and the identity of the person who stole all that power.

“We were all devastated by the outcome of this ritual,” Elijah tells Rebekah as they walk down a New Orleans street.

“That’s just it: there was no outcome,” Rebekah retorts. “We both know that power like that doesn’t just vanish. I say someone stole it, I’d like to know whom, and then I’d like to make an ally out of them.” Oh, man. We’re seriously digging Rebekah’s overthrow efforts — though, maybe, she shouldn’t go spilling her plans to anyone who will listen?

Michael breaks down where The Originals is when it returns with Episode 12. In the aftermath of the failed — or, at least, incomplete Harvest ritual — “nefarious forces [are] at work that are guiding the deterioration of Davina and trying to absorb some of this power that is in play.” Specifically: “crafty, crafty Sabine — aka Celeste,” as Julie describes it.

Instead of bringing back the young witches who were sacrificed for the Harvest, Celeste has brought back the three stylish witches we saw walking the French Quarter at the end of Episode 11. But these aren’t just any witches, according to Michael: “She brings back three of the worst witches of all time/history of New Orleans, who each have, in their own unique way, a bone to pick with the vampires — in particularly the family of Originals who are now kind of in charge. And the first of them is a guy named Papa Tunde.”

Papa Tunde is the Bow-Tied Witch we see choking Klaus in the extended promo for Episode 12. In the producers’ promo, he is similarly menacing: “I can crush you before the eyes of your son. And then I will consume you both,” he tells someone. Later in the vid, we see him stating the threatening promise we’ve seen before in the extended promo: “I will hurt Klaus Mikaelson as he hurt me. When I am done, he will wish that he could die.” Yikes!

According to Michael, this is just the start of a new and menacing act in The Originals saga: “This is just the first salvo in a war that is beginning, and it will be kind of this new chapter in our mythology: the witches taking back New Orleans,” he says. Or, as Julie describes it: “The badass witch chapter.”

Bring it on, show. We’ve been waiting for the witches to get menacing for a while, and it sounds like it might finally be happening. We are so ready to start taking The Originals witches seriously.

Are you as excited about this new chapter as we are? What do you think Celeste and her witchy friends are up to? Sound off in the comments below!
