On this week’s episode of The Originals, we met Francesca (Peta Sergeant), an ambitious and smart woman who has risen to lead the human faction of the city. Peta chatted with Dread Central about her character’s storyline moving forward. Just how important will Francesca be?

The Originals cycles through characters like other shows do props. It’s hard to tell who who live and who will die — and what effect either of those states will have on the character’s prominence in the plot. But what is with new character Francesca? Her family runs the most successful casino in New Orleans — not to mention the most successful underground drug ring. She’s already threatened Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and lived to tell the tale. What’s next for this daring human?

“When I enter... I kind of find my way in and manage to become the person that is around and make myself a kind of integral part of negotiations,” Peta told Dread Central. “Each faction is represented by someone. The werewolves by somebody and the witches and the Originals. So I kind of come in and become the central leader of the human faction. I think it will be fun; as much as everybody loves the supernatural, I think people will love to go, ‘Oh great, there is a human who is going to be in the faction, too.’ It's like the humans don’t have any power, they don’t have anything going for them, so I kind of come in and go, ‘Yes, we do.’ Which is fun.”

Humans with power? We’ve heard of crazier things in the Vampire Diaries universe. And, we like the sound of it. The Originals’ story of power struggle amongst the city’s factions is only interesting if we take all of the non-Original family factions seriously. Even if they don’t pose a massive threat, they need to have some kind of bargaining chip. We hope Francesca is ready to gamble and potentially win big. We’re quite intrigued by her — and not only because of all of the flirting she got in with Elijah.

What do you think of Francesca? Do you think her character will make it more than a few episodes? Sound off in the comments below!

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
