Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt) may have left New Orleans, but that doesn’t mean her presence (or lack thereof) won’t still have an effect on The Originals. What did executive producer Julie Plec tell TVLine is in store for a Rebekah-less NOLA?

“I don’t think it’s the last we’ve seen of Rebekah. It was just time for her to say goodbye and drive off into the proverbial sunset,” Julie explained of the departure of the Mikaelson vampiress. But, it shouldn’t be Bex we’re worried about — we should turn our attention to the effect her departure has had on brothers Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies).

“The absence of this sister from this family dynamic is going to make the brother dynamic even more fraught,” Julie teased. Yikes! We didn’t know their fraternal relationship could get more fraught. We thought it was at its fraughtiest.

This certainly lends weight to the spoiler we recently garnered involving the filming of a Klaus scene complete with coffin. Is this where the relationship between Elijah and Klaus is headed? With one of them daggered and in a coffin? It wouldn’t be the first time, and it certainly seems likely given that Klaus has been working behind Elijah’s back to sabotage his brother’s peace process. Unbeknownst to his brother, Klaus has some sort of deal going with the werewolves. He also has a witch on his side in the form of frenemy-with-benefit Genevieve. What is he up to? And is this the fraughtiness Julie is referring to?

Did you know the relationship between Elijah and Klaus got get any worse? What do you think will happen between the brothers? Sound off in the comments below!

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
