There’s enough going on in the French Quarter to get us shaking in our boots, but it’s actually the mini-hiatuses that are butchering the ratings for our favorite CW shows — The Originals included. The freshman series returned last night (April 15) with Season 1, Episode 18 (“The Big Uneasy”), and with the finale quickly approaching, we’ve unfortunately hit a new series low.
According to Zap2it, the Vampire Diaries spin-off pulled in just 1.46 million viewers, only earning a 0.6 share in the key 18-49 demo, down 14 percent from its most recent all-new episode. Yikes, it looks like a lot of people didn’t tune in to see the insane drama that went down.
NCIS and The Voice killed it in the ratings, scoring 16.73 million and 11.6 million viewers, respectively. A repeat episode of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. topped both The Originals and Glee in the eight o’clock timeslot.
Given the fact that its freshman season has been plagued with multiple mini-hiatuses, it’s no surprise that viewers have a hard time knowing when there’s a new episode of The Originals. Even fan-favorite Supernatural was way down from its most recent new episode back on March 25.
It’s a good thing The Originals is already renewed for Season 2 or else we’d be worried about its future. We’re crossing our fingers that viewership skyrockets with the finale, which we’ve heard is completely “nuts.”

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
