We were immediately intrigued by newbie leader of the human faction Francesca (Peta Sargent) on The Originals. Not only is she beautiful, clever, and flirts with Elijah, but she seems to be hiding a larger scheme. (Though, to be fair, who in the French Quarter isn’t?) The synopsis for Season 1, Episode 21 (“The Battle of New Orleans”) tells us: “Francesca threatens Cami, who attempts to decipher a code that results in a surprising revelation among the city’s factions.” What is Francesca up to?

She wants to rid the French Quarter of supernaturals. Let’s face it: the humans are the weakest faction in the French Quarter. They have none of the supernatural abilities of the supernatural factions. Their only advantage is numbers, and that only works to a certain extent — as most humans are unaware of the supernatural underbelly of the Quarter. Does Francesca see this disadvantage and work to rid the Quarter of every faction but the humans? Is that the code Cami deciphers — a way for the humans to communicate their scheming to one another without the werewolves, witches, or vampires cluing in?

She wants to use the supernaturals to make money. Then again: how much does Francesca care about security? She seems to be a businesswoman first, and a member of the human faction second. Her leadership seems to have more to do with ensuring she keep her business stable and successful than it does protecting those humans she cares nothing for. She sees them as potential customers more than people who deserve a safe home to live in. With that in mind, we can’t help but think Francesca’s grand plan must have something to do with making more money for the casino and or drug trafficking her family makes its money off of. Is she planning on using some of the supernatural creatures as a draw? Or, perhaps, trying to broaden her clientele into the other factions?

She wants to seduce Elijah. Who wouldn’t want to seduce Elijah? He’s devilishly handsome, witty, and wears a suit like no one’s business. We’re not saying the seduction of Elijah is Francesca’s only goal, but we wonder if it isn’t somewhere on the list. After all, she started flirting with him as soon as she made her bid for leader of the human faction. Was her interest in Elijah incidental to her goal of leading the humans or is she sincerely interesting in the Original vampire?

She wants the miracle baby. Because why not? The miracle baby is one-of-a-kind, which means rare, which means valuable. She also has incredible healing ability, and the blood necessary to make hybrids. Is Francesca insinuating herself into the supernatural community, moving closer to the Mikaelsons, so that when the baby is born, she is in a position to snatch her? We have a feeling that everything is building towards the birth of this baby in the Season 1 finale, and how it affects everyone in the supernatural community. It would be clever to tie in Francesca’s story arc with this larger theme.
