Guys, someone needs to let Davina (Danielle Campbell) know how much of a jerk Mikael is. Pronto. From the look of things in the last episode of The Originals, she is seriously considering bringing the murderous Mikaelson patriarch back. In fact, it might already be too late. Will Davina resurrect Mikael? We speculate below.

Here’s the thing: were we in Davina’s situation, we would totally consider bringing Mikael back, too. She doesn’t know that he once razed New Orleans. She doesn’t know that he is super powerful and manipulative. She doesn’t know that he is the worst father ever. Heck, even if she did know all of those things, she might still consider bringing Mikael back if she considered him the lesser of two evils. (The other evil in this equation being Klaus.) Klaus killed her first love, and is in the process of killing her best friend, aka the only person in the Quarter who doesn’t seem to have ulterior motives when it comes to hanging out with Davina. In other words, motivation: check.

There’s also the fact that this is season finale season to consider. On a regular, run-of-the-mill episode, maybe we wouldn’t consider the possibility of Mikael coming back very likely. But anything goes on season finales, and The Originals is celebrating its first next Tuesday. Klaus may already have enough to worry about what with the spell draining all of his power, the kidnapping of the mother of his soon-to-be-born baby, and the werewolf coup, but there are never enough obstacles in a season finale, and this one seems to be about putting Klaus in a position in which he cannot win. This entire season has, more-or-less, been about Klaus winning, even if he is only getting what he thinks he wants and not what he actually needs in the process. We think the finale may be about him finally losing, finally having to admit that there are things he cares about more than power, and it makes sense if Mikael is included in that equation. He is the only person Klaus has ever been truly frightened of.

There’s also Klaus’ nightmare to consider. The night before Father Kieran’s funeral, Klaus dreamt of looking down at his daughter, only to have Mikael dagger him from behind. Was this less of a nightmare and more of a premonition of what is to come in the Season 1 finale? If so, it’s going to take Davina’s resurrection of Mikael to make it happen.

Finally, we have Davina’s own powers to consider. Is she even capable of bringing Mikael back, especially without the help of her witch-friends? Perhaps, not. We think Davina has a great deal of power to unlock, but we’re not sure if she’s there yet. Will Josh’s dire situation and the rage she feels for Klaus be the key to unlocking that power? It would seem anti-climactic if The Originals presented the possibility of Mikael’s resurrection only not to go forward with it — and The Originals doesn’t really do anti-climactic. If they don’t bring Mikael back, they’d have to have a good reason for bringing his character back in ghost form at all, and right now, we can’t think of what that would be. What pay-off could his character arc have if not resurrection?

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
