If there were ever a couple on The Originals to most likely identify with a Rihanna song, it would be Elijah and Hayley, for they found love in a hopeless place. Seriously! What’s worse than falling for your brother’s baby mama in the middle of a supernatural war?

And it looks like things are only about to get worse for Halijah, who just celebrated their first kiss. Daniel Gillies recently told TVLine, ahead of tonight's Season 1 finale, that Elijah and Hayley are “sort of doomed.” We feel for Hayley; it’s hard to pick between two Mikaelson brothers. He added: “I almost wonder if that’s what makes those two special. And the more she grows, the more humorous it becomes.”

Wait, humorous? It turns out filming a kissing scene with a fake baby bump wasn’t as romantic as it appeared on screen.

“We had to be really careful with some of those kisses,” Daniel said. “In trying to seize her in a passionate embrace, I had to make sure I wasn’t being comedic in terms of slamming into a nine month-old belly. We had to exercise due caution with the rampant sexual advances.”

But how long will Hayley and Elijah be able to hide their love from Klaus? When Hayley gives birth to baby Mikaelson, things are only going to get more complicated, especially when Klaus is faced with fatherhood. Plus, we all know how much Klaus hates to share.

“I love their chemistry and the complication of the relationship,” Daniel told TVLine of Elijah and Hayley’s romance. “You’ve got a 1,000-year-old vampire and a pregnant werewolf girl. It couldn’t get any more unique than that. And not only a pregnant werewolf, but a girl pregnant with his vampire brother’s child.”

Luckily, the Mikaelson bros have bigger things to worry about right now than relationship drama — like the safety of Klaus and Hayley’s unborn baby. Obviously, the baby hybrid comes first.
