The Originals without Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt) is like an ice cream sundae without whipped cream: it’s good, but it’s missing that extra something sweet. We were so happy to see her in the superb Season 1 finale, but it just made us miss her more. Will Auntie Bex be making an appearance in Season 2? Executive producer Julie Plec weighed in on the subject!

“Honestly, I definitely know we’ll see her again in certain contexts,” Julie told TVLine. (Thank the TV gods — coincidentally, of which Julie may just be a member, if not the leader.) “She’s got the baby, so it’s not like she’ll be living in New Orleans and playing nanny in the middle of the French Quarter, but this is not the last we’ve seen of her. We’d definitely like to check in on her every now and again.”

Um, yes please? We can deal with Rebekah’s absence as a main character if we know that she’s not gone for good — especially because her forever absence wouldn’t ring true with the amazing character The Vampire Diaries and The Originals has created. Rebekah may want a life separate from the cycle of misery that tends to follow brother Klaus around, but she loves her family dearly. We doubt she could stay away for long.

There’s also the final developments of the Season 1 finale to consider. We’re talking, of course, about the return of Rebekah’s mother Esther, father Mikael, and (probably) brother Finn from the dead. With these three in town, will Rebekah be able to stay away from the family reunion? Maybe — now that she has Baby Hope to protect — but, if Esther or Mikael finds out that the miracle baby is still alive (that is if they don’t already know), then we’re not sure if Rebekah can hide — even if she wants to.

Are you ecstatic to hear that Rebekah will “definitely” be back? What form do you think her return will take? Share your theories in the comments below!
