The Teen Choice Award nominations are out, and The Vampire Diaries and The Originals received eight nominations between themselves — including a much-deserved Choice TV Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy for the superbly compelling Claire Holt (Rebekah Mikaelson). Unfortunately, co-star and bestie Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley Marshall) did not receive a nomination. Sadness. Which other actors received noms and what do we think of Phoebe’s snub? Read on to find out!

Joseph Morgan, Ian Somerhalder, and Paul Wesley all received a nomination for Choice TV Actor: Sci-Fi/Fantasy (tough category!), while TVD was nominated for Choice TV Show: Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Ian Somerhalder scored a second nomination for Choice Male Hottie. In addition to Claire, Nina Dobrev and Kat Graham also scored noms for Choice TV Actress: Sci-Fi/Fantasy. We like these odds of a TVD or The Originals cast member coming away with a win in these categories.

We’re totally bummed that Phoebe wasn’t nominated, but we understand that it’s a tough category with only a five spots (the other two went to Once Upon a Time’s Ginnifer Goodwin and Beauty and the Beast’s Kristin Kreuk). Plus, until Rebekah left as a main character two-thirds of the way through Season 1, Hayley’s character unfortunately didn’t get much to work with in terms of meaty storyline material. We’re excited to see Hayley’s expanded role continue onto Season 2, and hope that Phoebe will get a nod next year. But, even if she doesn’t, Claire and Phoebe will always both be winners in our hearts!

Do you think Phoebe deserved a nomination? Are you excited to see all of the TVD and The Originals folks nominated for awards? Sound off in the comments below!
