Phoebe Tonkin Says Faye Is Inspired by Sarah Michelle Gellar!
Faye Chamberlain might be The Secret Circle’s resident wicked witch, but she isn’t your stereotypical bad girl. Sure, Faye’s snarky and sassy, but Phoebe Tonkin assures viewers that there’s more to her character than meets the eye.
“I wanted to stay away from the two dimensional, snarky, sarcastic, b*tchy character,” Phoebe tells Hollywood Life. “If you do that for so long, it kind of gets boring. You want to show multiple sides, You want [the character] to be forgiven in episode after episode.”
So who is Phoebe’s ultimate inspiration? The Ringer’s Sarah Michelle Gellar! ”I grew up watching Cruel Intentions,” Phoebe reveals. “Sarah Michelle Gellar’s character [Kathryn Mertreuil] inspired me. Her repressed sexuality, that kind of very controlled mannerisms, and things like that. [Her mannerisms] definitely influenced my portrayal.”
Let’s just hope Faye doesn’t start keeping a vile of cocaine in a crucifix necklace like Kathryn. ‘90s flashback shudder!
