Shailene Woodley's life is about to get a little bit less amazing.

The 21-year-old actress has just been cut from the upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

The actress, who had been cast as Peter Parker's love interest, Mary Jane, in the film, told Entertainment Weekly that her role is no longer a part of the film and that she's upset over the decision to cut her from the story.

"Of course I'm bummed," she told the magazine. "But I am a firm believer in everything happening for a specific reason.

While there has been some speculation that tensions between Shailene and Emma Stone have made work on set difficult, due to Shailene's alleged flirting with Emma's beau, Andrew Garfield, Shailene chalks her departure up to plot retooling.

"Based on the proposed plot, I completely understand the need for holding off on introducing [Mary Jane] until the next film," she explained.

Shailene won't spend her summer at home throwing darts at pictures of ol' spidey though; she stars in the upcoming dramedy The Spectacular, scheduled for release in August, and is currently filming Divergent with Kate Winslet, Mekhi Phifer, and Zoe Kravitz.
