On The Secret Life of the American Teenager, she’s the guidance counselor whose life beyond the halls of Ulysses S. Grant High School remains a mystery, but now we’re finding out that Beverley Mitchell is living a secret life behind the scenes as well.
When the actress, who returned to set last week for the ABC Family show’s fifth season, isn’t on set, she’s working on writing her own scripts.
“I'm actually doing a lot of writing,” she told Wetpaint Entertainment at the Secret Room pre-Oscar lounge in Los Angeles “I've got a few pilots that I've written, and I'm working on some scripts.“
Don’t expect the next Modern Family from this girl — by the sounds of it she’s more of a Shonda Rhimes.
“I like me some drama,” she laughs. “Forty-two minutes of drama. Maybe next pilot season, you might see one of mine. There's one that I would [want to star in], and the other one I wouldn't. And then I'm working on my third.”
But speaking of drama, Beverly has us questioning the rumors that on the remaining season of Secret Life, which premieres Mach 26, one of the students gets involved with drugs — or at least that a drug related incident sends one of the kids to summer school.
“No, not quite,” teases Beverly. “It's Secret Life, so there's tons of drama, and tons of hookups, but no drugs.”
And before you start hoping for a hot guidance counselor hook-up, Beverly tells us Kaitlin O’Malley’s private life will remain a mystery for the remainder of the season.
“[She has] no personal life. I'm a counselor — counselors don't have personal lives. They're all about their students,” laughs Beverly.
“But I'm open to whatever comes my way. I love the show. I love playing with them. So whatever I get, I'm happy to dish out.”
