The Secret Life of the American Teenager’s sudden cancellation surprised fans, but we weren’t the only ones left wanting more. When star Francia Raisa (who plays the ever-sassy Adrian Lee) found out, she was shocked, as the cast was expecting to film a sixth season.

We caught up with Francia to chat about the final season — which you can read in the first part of our exclusive interview — and her career plan moving forward.

Wetpaint Entertainment: Were you surprised that they decided to end the show at this point?

Francia Raisa: Of course, especially because we had one more season in our contract. I was shocked. I thought we were going to do a sixth season, and then we were going to be done. But ABC Family has their reasons why they do things, and I'm just grateful that I even got to work with them because I love that network. They've been so supportive of me since day one.

What are you going to do now that the series is ending?

Oh my gosh. I was not complaining, but I was talking to my friend yesterday and I was like, "I don't understand how I'm not working on the show right now, but I'm still so, so busy." My agents have been on top of things, and a lot of doors are opening up for me. A lot of my friends are pushing me to take a different direction. I've been talking about music before, and it's really coming to me. I've been at the studio a lot lately.

Would you do TV again?

I love TV, and I just love building a family with my friends, so it’s definitely something I would do if it's the right project. I'm a little picky right now, but if it’s the right project, I'll definitely do it. I do want to have a lot more fun.

I guess when you commit to something for potentially seven years or longer, you really need to enjoy it?

Yeah, you do, and fortunately, we are one of the rare casts that got along very well. I don't remember any drama between anyone in the last five years. Like nothing. We all just came in so fresh and so new and so excited, and we kept that same energy throughout the five seasons.

Are you going to stay in touch with everyone?

I'm going to the spa with the girls in like 15 minutes, actually. We're all going to get massages and our nails done — all the girls, none of the boys. That's how it is, though … it's all the girls, and then I hang out with the boys.

Isn’t it crazy that in the time you guys have been together, Allen Evangelista became a daddy?

I know. And he's the cutest thing, my Godson. I love Allen to death, and he's getting married in January, actually. Kenny [Baumann] got married while we were filming, and now Allen's getting married. I'm waiting for Megan and Renee to get engaged. I mean, we’re all growing up. And Allen has, honestly, the cutest, sweetest baby ever. He’s adorable, and [Allen’s] great with him.

I'm sorry Secret Life is ending, but I'm quite excited to see what you do next!

Thank you so much. I'm sorry, too, but I'm very, very excited. You guys are definitely not going to get rid of me just yet. I mean, this is just the beginning. And please tell the fans that we appreciate all their love and support for the last five years. I hope they enjoy the last season.
