After news broke that The Secret Life of the American Teenager’s spring season would be its last, we were shocked. For the past four years, we’ve grown up with the students of Grant High, overjoyed when Amy and Ricky finally got together and devastated when Adrian lost her baby.
Now that the series is coming to an end, Wetpaint Entertainment caught up with star Francia Raisa to find out about the future for her character, Adrian Lee, and of course, get scoop on the series finale!
Wetpaint Entertainment: You guys finished filming two weeks ago. How crazy was that?
Francia Raisa: It's so weird. It hasn't really hit me yet. I'm still kind of waiting for someone to text me my call time.
Was there a wrap party?
We always have a lunch. It was really sad because the last shot of the day was the last shot of the series, and it was with Daren [Kagasoff]. We all gave our speeches right before, and we were like, "OK, Daren. Mess up every time so it never ends."
What was your reaction to finding out that you weren't coming back?
We found out the day before it came out in the press. The executive producer called all of us and told us. I mean, I was sad because this is my family. I've been on this for five years, and I grew up there. I was 19 when I started the series, and now I'm 24. So it was really sad, but at the same time, I'm excited to go on to other projects. I feel like I've grown so much as an actress from that show that now I'm excited to see what else I can do because they've challenged me with everything on [Secret Life].
So basically, you graduated college, and now you can go.
Now it's time for the real world.
What can you say about the spring? Are you able to tie what needs to be tied together before the show ends?
I mean, we could have done a better job at it, but we only had three weeks to do it. So I think for the time that we had, it ended the way it should.
In broad strokes, can you tease what some of the last season’s arcs are going to be?
For the last episode, you’re basically are going to see how our lives are going to end up. Who's going to end up being together? Who's not going to be end up being together? What education paths we're going to take. What career paths we're going to take. Everything you guys have been asking for five years is going to finally be answered. Then what I like about the last episode is it's a montage of our lives throughout the last five years.
