Shailene Woodley may have missed out on playing Katniss Everdeen, but she’s reportedly set to star in the “next Hunger Games,” aka Divergent, the latest buzzy young adult trilogy adaptation.

Deadline reports that the Secret Life of the American Teenager star is the frontrunner to play the series’ 16-year-old protagonist, Beatrice (“Tris”). This comes on the heels of her show’s cancellation and casting reports that she’s the top choice for Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, co-starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

This wouldn’t be Shai’s first brush with superfame, either. In addition to her Golden Globe-nominated performance in The Descendants, a few years ago, she was also in the running to play Katniss in The Hunger Games film adaptation, but the role ultimately went to Jennifer Lawrence. She told MTV, “Yeah, I definitely auditioned. It wasn’t, like, a great audition. But I think that Jennifer Lawrence is perfect for that role.”

For those unfamiliar, Veronica Roth’s Divergent  is set in the future with young characters engaged in acts of violence, hence the comparison to The Hunger Games. However, in Divergent’s world, society is divided into five factions based on human traits and virtues rather than by geographical location like Panem’s districts.

Instead of volunteering as tributes for a battle, 16-year-olds must select a faction “to which they will devote the rest of their lives to,” according to the official synopsis. Lead character, Tris (the role Shailene is reportedly in talks for), makes the surprising choice to join a new faction rather than staying with her family, stirring up plenty of drama.

Given all the fighting that Amy does on Secret Life with Ricky and the way that Shailene could even argue with George Clooney, we think she would be a great fit. Even though she’s 22, she looks young and fits the bill for Tris’s looks, but only time will tell if Shai will become the next “It Girl.”

Could Shailene be the next Jennifer Lawrence? Weigh in below!
