The Secret Life of the American Teenager was canceled by ABC Family yesterday, scheduled to end after the final 12 episodes of Season 5 air in the spring.

The network’s first foray into original content premiered in 2008, which helped launch the career of star Shailene Woodley — who delivered a Golden Globe-nominated performance in 2011’s The Descendants — and marked the comeback of Molly Ringwald.

Secret Life also marked 7th Heaven creator Brenda Hampton’s second hit series. She brought former Camden family members like Mackenzie Rossman, and even convinced Beverley Mitchell to return to television last year, starring as school counselor Kaitlin O’Malley.

But what’s up next for the Secret Life stars? Films. Shailene Woodley is currently working on The Spectacular Now with Revenge’s Jennifer Jason Leigh, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Brie Larson; Ken Baumann has The Cottage due out in the next year with David Arquette and Scandal’s Bellamy Young; and Megan Park just wrapped a film with Miley Cyrus, Revenge’s Josh Bowman, and Jeremy Piven — just to name a few.

And while it’s too early for Brenda to announce her next project, we’re sure the cast will not only land on their feet, but they will probably pop up on her next show. Regardless, we are bummed that we won’t be walking the halls of Grant High again. Hopefully Amy and Ricky will get their happily ever after in the series finale.
