The Vampire Diaries Logic Fails From Season 3, Episode 16, “1912”

The Vampire Diaries is a show where witches can bring people back from the dead, vampires kiss humans instead of ripping their throats out, and werewolves have silky smooth chests when they haven’t transformed. And we accept all of this without blinking an eye. Yet it’s the little things that make us scoff and say, “That would never happen.” Check out the biggest logic fails from Season 3, Episode 16, “1912.”

Sheriff Forbes was right about Alaric?
We love Sheriff Forbes, but when has she ever solved a crime in Mystic Falls? Somehow she manages to put together eyewitness testimony, means, and opportunity and jails Alaric (Matt Davis) for the Mystic Falls Murders. Gold star — because Alaric really is the killer! Except then she lets him go. D’oh.

Elena is all, “Why I never” about Stefan biting a girl
We are seriously confused by Elena’s (Nina Dobrev) scandalized look when she catches Stefan (Paul Wesley) somewhat restrainedly suckling a girl’s neck. First, she’s seen the reassembled corpses left in the Ripper’s wake, and she had no idea Stef was off the human blood after he nearly drove her off a bridge. It’s not like she’s seen Stefan’s strides towards normalcy, so why does the sight upset her so much?

It took this long remember the 1912 murders?
While a lot of time has passed since 1912 — the last time there were tons of unexplained deaths in Mystic Falls (except for every time the Salvatore boys are in town) — we can’t believe it takes Stefan andDamon (Ian Somerhalder) so long to remember the killings. Three bodies makes a pattern/serial killer, and let’s face it: these Salvatore Holmes are slow to pick up on it. Thank goodness for journals!

Meredith stays mum
It’s really nice of Meredith (Torrey DeVitto) to clear Alaric’s name and all, but why does she turn Elena and Matt (Zach Roerig) in to the police instead of just telling them her suspicions? Instead, she happily sends a murderer home to his 18-year-old girl ward and hopes she’ll figure it out from the mysterious journals the doc has no idea are missing from her closet. Good plan, Mer! If Alaric had stabbed Elena, you probably could’ve just pumped her full of vamp blood and sent her on her way, right?
