Julie Plec is one of the creative masterminds behind The Vampire Diaries (as if you didn’t already know!). She was kind enough to exclusively spill some deets on our favorite show, and now we caught up with her to get the inside scoop on what makes her tick. We’re talking everything from whether she’s Team Damon or Team Stefan to what her favorite TV shows are. Want to know more about the brilliant Julie Plec? Read on!

It’s been fun to watch. Now questions for and about you, Julie. So, if you could be bitten by any vampire who would it be and why?
Julie: Oooh. That’s a tough one. Could I get one bite on each side from my two Salvatore boys?
You are the boss. So, sure. If vampires existed, would you want to be one?
Julie: No, I wouldn’t. But I would want to find myself perilously trapped in a war between two brothers fighting for my soul.
Who wouldn’t want to be the meat in a hottie sandwich? That’s easy. Although, honestly, we wouldn’t like for them to be brothers because the guilt factor’s too high on that.
Julie: I know. That’s true.
At home are you Team Damon or Team Stefan?
Julie: This is so lame but I’m genuinely, honestly, truly Team Both for a lot of reasons. I think that what Stefan brings in terms of intensity and force and weight and soul is so important to the show. And I think watching Damon’s journey from villain to hero to anti hero back to villain back to hero, the cyclical nature of Damon’s character is so fascinating to me. So I’ve got to go Team 50-50. Sorry.

So you and co-creator and co-executive producer Kevin Williamson don’t role-play with each picking a side?
Julie: No. And I think Kevin probably feels the same way. Sometimes on a Tuesday I’ll be team Damon. On a Wednesday I’ll be team Stefan. Really, my big thing is I’m Team Brother. I’m Team Salvatore and I want that relationship to be powerful and profound. And that’s going to win for me anytime.
You’ve said you’re single. But honestly do you have time to date?
Julie: No! That’s why the irony of spending every day surrounded by some of the most gorgeous people in the business at least offsets the fact that I never actually go home or go out or do anything else.
How does your living situation work out: Do you spend the season in Atlanta, off-season in L.A.?
Julie: No. I go back and forth through the season. Though Kevin and I have been in Atlanta for the last five or six weeks. But then we’re heading back to L.A. Basically our schedule is every minute that we’re not working we’re sleeping and every now and then I get to watch an hour of my favorite TV show on my iPad. Other than that it’s just round-the-clock work.
When you get that hour which show are you trying to catch up on?
Julie: Well, let me tell you: My mega favorites are Friday Night Lights and Glee. Those are my don’t miss shows. But I’m also surprisingly and wonderfully enjoying Nikita and The Event.

In our circles a lot of people watch The Event, even though half of us don’t really love it yet.
Julie: You know, I think it’s incredibly well made. I think the ensemble acting is really strong and I really like Jason Ritter and I’m just kind of into it. It reminds me of 24 in a good way. That’s why I’m enjoying it because 24 was one of my favorites.
BTW: Thank you for answering that TV question. We really get annoyed when TV people say they don’t watch TV.
Julie: I’d watch more TV if I could. I’ve had to give up a lot of shows over the season for time. But when I get time, I’ve got to watch my Grey’s Anatomy, I’ve got to watch my House. Everything else, like The Good Wife, I just pick up the first season and watch all of them over my Christmas vacation.
Do you get recognized walking around Atlanta?
Julie: Me? No. Although I did get recognized once at the Teen Choice Awards. These three girls started screaming my name. It was weird. But our cast does get recognized. But it’s also very nice for them to be here in Atlanta because they have their favorite restaurants and they have places that they go to a lot and the people who work there are very, very cool about taking care of them and treating them well. So we’ve got places that are like home where they can walk in and get a table and nobody bothers them. It’s pretty great.
