The Vampire Diaries hottie Ian Somerhalder (Damon) is many wonderful things and we can add devoted cat papa to the list. "I have three cats in my loft in Atlanta," Ian tells People Pets. "I literally wake up and there's just fur everywhere. It's so awesome." His brood is pretty diverse, too. "They're all very different. One is a feral cat from Hawaii who grew up in the jungle, another one is a rescue from a dungeon in New York and the other one's from Canada." He's like the Angelina Jolie of the feline world!
Mr. Smolderhotter cares so much about feral cat overpopulation that he’s launching a foundation with the St. Tammany Humane Society in Louisiana. Through the foundation, PeoplePets.com reports, Ian will help control the situation "without causing ecological after-effects." "We're allocating a very specific amount of money to funding research for sterilization drugs," Ian says. "[Once the drug] becomes species-specific, hopefully, in two decades there will be no problem."
What is prompting him to do this? "Just my love of animals," he says, adding that his family members have more than 10 pets between them. "I've had them my entire life."
