Season 3 Spoilers! Elena Celebrates a Milestone and Deals With Her Attraction to Damon
TVD producer Julie Plec has been spilling some Season 3 secrets to TV Guide, so stop reading now if you want remain spoiler-free!
Next season on The Vampire Diaries, we’ll see Elena Gilbert grow up — in more ways than one. First, the high schooler celebrates a birthday for the first time on the show.
“There will be a small time jump [from where last season ended] as we celebrate Elena’s birthday,” says Plec. “But as is the pattern in Mystic Falls, the event never reaches its climax.” We know what that means: Something wicked this way comes.
But although she’s turning 18 and starting senior year, we’ve got good news: the TVD crew won’t be graduating come season’s end. Whew!
After she’s legal, Elena will have to tackle new challenges, including living alone. “Elena and Jeremy technically don’t need a parent living in their house [following Aunt Jenna's death],” Plec says. “She will be taking care of herself.”
And that doesn’t just mean juggling schoolwork (does Mystic Falls High even assign any?) and household responsibilities but dealing with some confusing feelings as well. “Elena will be struggling with a deep, deep attraction toward Damon. That’s going to be a big problem for her,” Plec says. The same can be said for Rebecca, a currently uncast vampiress from Stefan’s “darkest ripper days who loves that Stefan’s back to his bad behavior.”
Uh oh. The last thing this town needs is another (crazy) vampire vixen trying to win Stefan’s affection!
