So what’s the deal with the Lockwood family moonstone that Uncle Mason wants to get his hands on? We know that back in the day (1864, obvs), Katherine gave George Lockwood this moonstone as a bartering tool to ensure her safety from the town’s vampire massacre. Tyler Lockwood took possession of the stone from his late father’s safe as soon as he found out that Mason really wanted to get his hands on it. But what’s it for? Vampire Diaries producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec aren’t ready to say exactly what it does — yet. That tease will likely come into play in the near future.
Like you, we’re impatient and want to know what the deal is with that coveted rock now. We did a little homework and found out that moonstones are in abundance, especially amongst the hippie crowd. It’s referred to as the “stone of emotional balance,” which, considering Uncle Mason has some control issues, would allude to why he wants to get his (ahem) paws on the rock so badly.
Our curiosity has definitely been piqued, and we can’t wait to know what power lies within the mysterious milky white orb. For the time being, we’ll just have to wait patiently... maybe holding on to that moonstone might help.
