The Vampire Diaries Speculation: When Will They Undagger Elijah?
While it was lovely to catch a glimpse of Elijah (Daniel Gillies) in his leather vest, which showed off his bulging biceps so nicely, in The Vampire Diaries Season 3, Episode 8, “Ordinary People,” it only whetted our appetite for the real deal. We’ve been patiently waiting through the first half of Season 3 to see the dagger get pulled out, and we’re wondering how much longer the executive producers are going to torment us with an Elijah-less existence.
The problem is that while Joseph Morgan (Klaus) became a series regular for Season 3 (which we’re very grateful for, by the way), Daniel Gillies is still just a guest star. And while we’d love for him to become a permanent member of the cast, Gillies has signed on for a new television show, Saving Hope. Although executive producer Julie Plec has promised she’ll always find a way to include Elijah, no matter what project Gillies is working on, we know his reappearance in Mystic Falls isn’t solely at the writers’ discretion.
However, now that Stefan (Paul Wesley) has a hold of Klaus’ coffins, that dagger in Elijah’s heart is a bit like Chekhov’s gun. We know it’s going to get pulled eventually — it just better happen before the curtain’s dropped on Season 3. But with Gillies’ scheduling conflicts, the last thing we want is for Elijah to get daggered again in the span of 45 minutes. Is there any way we can keep him around for a few episodes? At least longer than we had Mikael (Sebastian Roché)!
