Vampire Diaries Speculation: Why the White Oak Stakes Won’t Kill the Originals in Season 3, Episode 18, “Murder of One”
The last time Damon (Ian Somerhalder) had a white oak stake, he botched the plan to kill Klaus (Joseph Morgan) — and Mikael (Sebastian Roche) ended up dust instead. Now that the Salvatore brothers have a bag full of special Original-killing weapons, surely they can’t fail, right?
They better hope not. All that was left of the original white oak tree’s offspring was a sign that read deathtrap ahead Wickery Bridge. The vampire brothers chopped it up and honed the pieces into more stakes than you can shake a stick at. Almost the entire gang — Elena (Nina Dobrev), Damon, Stefan (Paul Wesley), Caroline (Candice Accola), and Matt (Zach Roerig) — is on the case, and now that the Original sibs are linked, all they need to do is kill one. It’s like child’s play, right?
Well, first of all, Damon is neutralized thanks to Rebekah’s (Claire Holt) dungeon master games, and even Finn (Casper Zafer) is thinking of abandoning Mommy Dearest. There are still four more episodes in the season after Season 3, Episode 18, “Murder of One,” which means there’s plenty of time for the Originals to find supernatural loopholes in the deadly weapons and to unlink themselves. (In fact, we’d bet our bottom dollar that’s what Klaus persuades Bonnie to do it based on the episode’s synopsis.)
Can the Mystic Falls gang pull off the crime of the century, or will the Originals get what’s coming to them in the form of some oak-cured vengeance?
