Before The Vampire Diaries went on its epic six-week hiatus, Tyler (Michael Trevino) suddenly hightailed it out of Mystic Falls, leaving us with tons of questions. Where did he go? Was he at werewolf training camp? Does wolf boy deserve a second chance? In an exclusive Wetpaint interview, Candice Accola, who plays Caroline Forbes on the CW hit, gives us some answers — and explains why werewolves make better boyfriends than vampires.


Wetpaint: We’re dying to see Tyler back in Mystic Falls. Can you give us any insight into where he went, and when he’ll be back?

Candice Accola: That’s up to the writers. Tyler has left Mystic Falls and nobody knows where he is. At this point we know that the sacrifice is going to need a werewolf, a vampire, and a witch, and the blood and life of a doppelganger. You know, we already needed a werewolf and there seems not to be any in town at this point. So it depends on… Who knows?


Do you think Caroline will ever be able to forgive Tyler?

If and when Tyler returns to Mystic Falls, it depends on his intentions — why he’s going back. And if that causes Caroline and Tyler’s paths to cross, I think there definitely needs to be conversation had. But Caroline has grown into the type of character that would be able to forgive him but probably not immediately. I think it all depends on how he approaches the situation. The ball is very much in Tyler’s court at this point.

We’ve already seen some amazing flashback scenes this season. What era do you really want to see the Salvatore Brothers in a flashback?
I would love to see the Salvatore Brothers during World War II, just to see where they were at the time. I just picture war. Maybe they contributed, maybe they didn’t. I don’t know.

Okay, change of topic. We’ve heard you’re an avid reader. What book is on your nightstand right now?

Oh, man, I’ve been slacking off. But I’ve been going through The Immortal life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. And I’ve been reading plays recently. I’m just about to finish Wit, and I just read Dinner with Friends. We have an acting class that a group of us are in here and I just started reading plays, so that’s been my new jam.

TVD fans are pretty awesomely fanatical. What’s your most crazy TVD fan story?

Nothing’s been too crazy. What always trips me up is that I always forget about Twitter. You tweet things and you kind of don’t think about it but then when you run into people they’re like, “Oh, I follow you! Did you have fun at that concert you were at last night?” Then it clicks — oh yeah, I’m telling all these personal whereabouts and moments to strangers, who are all very lovely and who have not been at all creepy to me. There’s not been too many weird instances. We’re kind of in our own little bubble down here. Everyone’s actually very cool and excited.

We’ve seen pics of you playing Scrabble on set. Who’s your most formidable Scrabble opponent?

When Stephen Amell played Brady, he was my best Scrabble opponent. He brought his A game.

Last season on True Blood, they introduced fairies. What crazy creature would you like to see TVD introduce?

I think maybe Captain Planet is a real person and he speeds into Mystic Falls to start a community service project.

Who would you prefer to date: a werewolf or a vamp?
This has nothing to do with who Caroline should date, but if I had to honestly answer that question it would probably be a werewolf because I’d rather deal with just one night of the month than every single day of high-strung, potential death. You could deal with, like, one day a month he’s going to be an asshole. I think that’s doable.
