Sara Canning Talks About the Possibility of Jenna’s Return During DragonCon
Birthday: July 14, 1987
TVD Character: Jenna Sommers
Hometown: Sara was born in Gander, New Foundland, but was raised in Sherwood, Alberta. Either way, yep, she’s another TVD-er from the great white Canadian north.
Why Sara might look familiar: Maybe you’ve seen her on ice. Sara was a competitive figure skater as a teen. She went from triple loops to triple takes, playing Nicky Hilton in the ultra cheesy made-for-TV flick Paparazzi Princess: The Paris Hilton Story. From there, she’s earned small roles on ABC Family’s Kyle XY and CW’s Smallville. But her biggest break was playing the mall-shopping teen abducted by a deranged James Van Der Beek in cable flick Taken in Broad Daylight. Obviously TVD was her breakthrough. “It’s the first time I’ve had a job that lasts longer than a month,” she said.
A little something extra you ought to know about Sara: Sara had a run-in with the po-po. In August 2009, police arrested Canning, along with her castmates Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, and Kayla Ewell, and charged them with disorderly conduct after they freaked people the bleep out by pretending to jump or be tossed off Georgia’s Rumble Road Bridge during a photo shoot. (Photographer Tyler Shields, who was also arrested, paid bail for all four women. Charges were later dropped.) Another good-to-know bit: In real life, Sara’s barely old enough to baby-sit Nina Dobrev and Steven R. McQueen, let alone be their legal guardian, as she played on TVD. “I’m the same age — or younger — as some of my castmates who are playing high-schoolers,” she told Parade magazine. “It's definitely a very strange thing.” A recent graduate of Vancouver Film School, Sara is only two years older than her former co-star Nina.
