The Voice 2013 Recap: Let the Battle Rounds Begin! (4/15/2013)

After weeks of blind auditions on The Voice Season 4, it’s now time for each team to battle to the musical death. Coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Shakira, and Usher will pair up their contestants to sing duets in tonight’s battle round premiere.

At the start of the battle rounds, each coach has 12 contestants on their teams. The battle used to cut teams in half, eliminating the losing contestants, but with Season 3’s addition of the “steals” some losing contestants will be given a second chance to stay in the competition.

When a contestant loses a battle, the remaining coaches have the opportunity to press their buttons to “steal” them. Each coach gets two steals, which means that by the end of the battles each coach will have 8 remaining contestants on their teams.

This gives contestants extra incentive to give the best possible duet. We’ve already seen sneak peeks from two Team Adam Levine battles. Sasha Allen and Amber Carrington each gave emotional performances of P!nk’s “Try,” while Judith Hill and Karina Iglesias tackled the iconic song, “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World.”

Want to see the performance in full? Be sure to tune into NBC tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
