The Voice’s Meghan Linsey Details Spider Bite That Left Her With a Hole in Her Face

Meghan Linsey is counting her blessings after surviving a potentially deadly bite by a brown recluse spider.

"This scenario is literally on the top of my nightmare list," The Voice Season 8 runner-up wrote in an Instagram post on February 21, just 9 days after waking up to a stinging sensation below her eye.

Though the photos are difficult to look at, Meghan's recovery is truly remarkable.

Brown recluse bites are highly venomous, and can cause necrotizing wounds that are potentially fatal without proper treatment.

Even after a trip to urgent care to tend to her bite, Meghan's condition quickly became very serious, as she tells People magazine.

“I had muscle spasms, then I had a body rash all over. They tell people to not look up things on WebMD, and I had looked up everything on WebMD and I had every symptom. Every day was another thing.”

Despite treatment with antibiotics, Meghan's condition continued to worsen "up until day nine, which is when the symptoms stopped happening and the necrosis started on my face,” she explains.

The venom caused her skin cells at the wound site to die, leaving her with "a hole on [her] face."

The 31-year-old has had a long road to recovery in the months since, one that involved experimental hyperbaric chamber treatments administered by a South Carolina wound specialist.

Though her wound is still healing, Meghan is back on the road.

“That helped me a lot, just being able to get back out on the road and do shows again,” she says.

However, her scar has changed her daily routine quite a bit.

“I’m one of those people that just throws [some makeup] on and goes, but now I have to put three or more layers on this one area of my face,” she explains.

“It’s kind of a pain at this point but, after going through everything I went through, I’m just glad to be alive.”

Meghan is taking that new lease on life and pouring it into finishing her next record, which she teases will feature one of her The Voice mentors. We can't wait to hear the result!
