From crazed pet monkeys to “Belieber” Anne Frank, pop star Justin Bieber has been in the media for all the wrong reasons lately. So when Jay Leno sat down with The Bieb’s former mentor, Usher, on The Tonight Show he had to ask him about the “Baby” singer.

“If Justin Bieber takes a sip of beer, suddenly that’s online, that’s all over the world,” Jay said.

“Because you never took a sip of beer when you were 16,” Usher quickly shoots back.

“Not in front of a camera,” Jay replies. “But, really, does he call you for advice?”

“Like what kind of beer to drink?” Usher joked laughing. “No, of course not!”

Fortunately, the R&B superstar quit with the jokes and took some time to talk about his former protege.

“Part of who we are, we give up that anonymity as artists,” he said “So you’re in front of a camera and you have to always be mindful that there’s someone who’s going to have an opinion. Those are things that I can talk about, but he has his own travel. Unfortunately, the social outlet and the ability for the paparazzi to make his life a living hell is just ridiculous. He can’t even have a life. Imagine you living in front of an audience where every single thing that you do is scrutinized. That’s crazy. You can’t even be allowed to be a normal teenager. You go through things, I mean, teenagers, they go through things.”

Yeah, but the “average” teenager doesn’t get in trouble for transporting monkey’s across international borders ... just sayin’.
