In December 2012, Cassadee Pope won The Voice Season 3 after smashing iTunes records with multiple No. 1 covers. Though she came from pop rock band Hey Monday, her No. 1 singles were all country tunes. With the help of coach Blake Shelton, Cassadee effortless transitioned into her new sound.

As she prepares to tour with Rascal Flatts and The Band Perry this summer and release her new album in the fall, Cassadee spoke exclusively with Wetpaint Entertainment about her career’s exciting new direction.

“I’ve always had a hope to break into the country world a little bit, but I guess I never thought that I could,” she admitted to us. “But on the show when I started singing more country stuff and going that route, Blake was the one who said, ‘Listen, you don’t have to worry about getting accepted or being embraced in this world because they’re already doing it. So if this is what you want to do, then do it.’ All of the country songs went to No. 1 [on iTunes]. I thought to myself, ‘Well, if the fans are wanting this and that’s what they’re voting for then I should do that with my album.’ And it felt good. It felt natural for me. I do owe this direction to the show, basically testing out the waters before releasing any music really when you think about it.”

Now Cassadee is recording her new album (which she tells us is basically complete) with Republic Nashville Records and working towards a fall release date. Though some sites released her “new single” this week, the singer tells us that one song was accidentally leaked and she’s not even sure if that will be her debut single.

“I’m premiering my single on June 4 on The Voice,” she tells us. “I haven’t even confirmed what the single is, but people kind of jumped the gun and got the audio and are saying it’s my new single. It’s pretty awesome that fans are so excited and that they’re getting it somehow. I am grateful for that.”

And though her new album will lean toward the country side of the industry, she’s certainly not giving up her pop rock roots either.

“I’d probably say it’s contemporary country with some pop rock elements,” she said. “Country music right now, they have so much rock influences in their songs, especially Florida Georgia Line. They have hip hop influence as well. They cover all their bases. I come in with my pop rock influences as well.”
