Much ado has been made over the battle between The Voice and long-running talent show and former ratings juggernaut American Idol. While many have become Voice converts, touting the fun interaction between the judges on the star-studded panel, Idol producers still stick by the fact that they have churned out stars where The Voice has fallen woefully short.
Season 3 winner Cassadee Pope is looking to change that with her debut album, Frame by Frame, but a Pop & Hiss blog post in the LA Times notes that the deck is somewhat stacked against the talented artist.
Cassadee needed to strike while the iron was hot but now that another winner was crowned in June and the new season has already begun, the iron is lukewarm at best.
History isn’t exactly on Pope’s side either. Inaugural winner Javier Colon was dropped from Republic Records due to abysmal record sales, and Season 2 winner Jermaine Paul hasn’t even put forth a debut effort.
Those in the Cassadee camp hope to ramp up interest in her debut album by featuring a six-part docu-series on CMT. The show follows Cassadee as she transitions from reality show winner to established artist. The talented singer expresses a lot of interest in having her country career take off, as she put a lot of effort in getting back to her country roots under the tutelage of The Voice coach Blake Shelton.
The Pop & Hiss blog warns that the docu-series may not do the trick, as it’s a somewhat tedious look at the singer without giving the viewer a real look at what she’s like.
Will you watch the docu-series and/or buy Pope’s album? Listen to her new song here and share your thoughts below!
