On October 14, Team Cee Lo‘s singers Anthony Paul and Caroline Pennell crooned a duet to “As Long As You Love Me” by Justin Bieber. At first, Anthony thought that he had the upperhand of the battle, as the song was within his genre of music. However, Cee Lo felt that Anthony was over-singing the song, where as Caroline adapted the song to her style of singing, despite it being beyond her scope of music. At the second round of rehearsals, Cee Lo and mentor Miguel loved the way Anthony breathed emotion into the song, but Caroline’s timid nature prevented her from truly connecting with the song.

Both singers took the stage with their stylistic renditions of the Bieber tune and got the audience to its feet. Coach Adam Levine complimented the two singers, but loved Caroline’s unique take on the song. Blake Shelton thought that both singers were great, but gave the battle to Anthony, since the song was brought into a “darker” place, which is more in line with Caroline’s sound. Christina Aguilera named the performance her best battle of the day and was unable to choose a winner as she thought both were equally beautiful.

Cee Lo told both singers that he enjoyed both their sounds, but enjoyed that Caroline’s voice could allow for much molding and shaping, and therefore named her the winner.

But this battle wouldn’t be the end of the road for Anthony! Christina came in with the steal and took the singer under her wing.
