Justin Chain and Shelbie Z. Sing “Don’t You Wanna Stay?” by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson
On October 14, Team Blake‘s singers Justin Chain and Shelbie Z. belted out a duet to “Don’t You Wanna Stay?” by Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson. Blake chose to pair the two country crooners together as they were both “outlaw” singers and he wanted to push them to sing a love song. During the first day of rehearsals, mentor Cher noticed that Shelbie was holding back her notes and not singing with her full potential. After letting go, Shelbie was able to hit her notes much better.
Blake warned Justin to pull his strength from where he was keeping it in order to catch up with Shelbie. During the second round of rehearsals, the singers sounded better, however, their harmonies had tons of pitch issues and the the vocalists were jumping on one another’s notes.
Taking the stage, Justin definitely began to embody the song by singing to Shelbie, and even touching her chin. Swoon. Coach Christina Aguilera thought that the pair would actually make a great duo group, but she would choose Shelbie Z. Cee Lo Green concurred with Christina, while Adam couldn’t get over how great the performance was as a whole. However, he (and Cee Lo) noted that Shelbie was sharp and for that, he chose Justin.
Blake rambled on for a while to avoid having to make a decision, but when it time to choose a victor, he went with Shelbie.
