Tessanne Chin and Donna Allen Sing “Next to Me” by Emeli Sandé
On October 14, Team Adam‘s jamaican singer Tessanne Chin and Miami Sound Machine crooner Donna rocked out a duet to Emeli Sandé’s “Next to Me.” Adam chose the two pit the singers against each other in an attempt to pull back Donna’s sound and to push Tessanne’s boundaries. During rehearsals it was clear that Donna could “steamroll” Tessanne due to her dynamic vocals.
At the second round of rehearsals, Donna was advised by mentor Ryan Tedder to scale back her voice just a bit, as her voice could become grating at certain notes.
When the ladies took the stage, they were able to sing without overpowering the other and gave a foot-stomping performance. Coach Blake Shelton called the battle “epic” and told Tessanne that she was able to put in little tricks into her vocals but gave it to Donna. Christina loved Donna’s Tina Turner sound, but gave it to Tessanne due to her crazy range. Cee Lo Green loved the raw energy of Donna’s voice, but loved the calm and poise of Tessanne Chin. Adam loved both his artists, stating that Donna was cut from the same cloth as Tina, and in the same breath noted that both women were “world class singers.”After a dramatic pause, Adam chose to keep Tessanne.
