There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the relationship between The Voice’s Blake Shelton and the mentor for his team this season, Cher. A show insider even allegedly claimed they have a “mutual hate-hate relationship.”
"Cher wishes she never agreed to be Blake's team mentor," the set insider told National Enquirer. "She can't stand him. She's already called him a big jerk and told him how much she hated him."
Of course, this is the National Enquirer we’re talking about, so many have likely taken that with a gigantic boulder of salt. And perhaps they should, as a new article from ABC News Radio says there is a lot of mutual respect and admiration. Rock icon Cher has even said she is majorly impressed by Blake’s level of dedication to these aspiring singers.
“At the time that he’s doing it he’s giving it every single, everything in his body, you know?” Cher told ABC News Radio. “He’d get up and start walking around but you could see it in, in the way his body moved that he was really, you know, reaching down deep to try to help these kids.”
Other rumors have said that the pair fight a lot about their differing political news, as Blake is a Republican while Cher is a diehard liberal, but the article points to the fact that the duo love nothing more than some good natured ribbing.
“Blake and I never stopped busting each other’s chops the whole time, and I’m much better at it than he is,” Cher said. “And so, he got the worst of it almost the whole time.”
As for Blake’s feelings for Cher, the respect comes from a place near and dear to his heart.
“I lost my dad a year and a half ago,” he explained. “And my dad’s favorite artist on Earth, bar none, no question, was Cher. My dad worshiped Cher.”
