We’ve finally come to the last night of The Voice Season 5 battle rounds and even with a montage of performances (argh!), there were still a couple of battles of note.

The first battle of the night between Team Cee Lo Green singers Jonny Gray and Shawn Smith was a pretty tough one to watch as the two friends duked it out to Tom Petty’s “Refugee.” Not only did the song feel like it aligned with the contenders’ military past, but it was sad to see Shawn, who had lost about 80 percent of the hearing in his ear, say goodbye to The Voice stage.

Team Adam Levine’s battle between singers Preston Pohl and Barry Black was a fun battle to watch, as the two sang the classic “I Wish It Would Rain” by the Temptations. While we enjoyed hearing Barry’s flugelhorn one last time, we ultimately had to give the best performance of the night to the last performance of the evening.

Christina Aguilera paired country singer Olivia Henken with indie soul singer Stephanie Anne Johnson for a battle of epic proportions. Stephanie, who had never sung or heard the song “Done” by The Band Perry, did an amazing job belting the tune alongside Olivia, who knew the song by heart. Stephanie’s sass and Olivia’s twang combined to create one powerful battle for The Voice books.

Coaches Adam Levine and Cee Lo Green felt that Stephanie was the winner, as she showed much conviction and sang the tune as good as any country singer would. Christina, however, went with her gut and gave the battle to Olivia, but Steph would not go home just yet. Cee Lo saved the songbird with his last steal, so she could sing again in the knockout rounds.
