Anthony Paul Sings “The Other Side” by Jason Derulo and Jacquie Lee Sings “Stompa” by Serena Ryder
On October 29, Team Christina Aguilera singers Anthony Paul and Jacquie Lee were paired to sing against one another on The Voice 2013 knockout rounds. Anthony came out first with “The Other Side” by Jason Derulo. Anthony chose the song as it represents the pop/soul artist he’d like to be. Christina was worried that the song would not provide Anthony enough wiggle room to showcase his voice.
Jacquie followed close behind with her rendition of “Stompa” by Serena Ryder. Jacquie felt connected to the power, rock, and angst of the song, but struggled with her stage presence. After a few helpful hints from Christina, she dominated the stage with her vocals and attitude.
Both coaches Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine felt that Anthony did not sing his best at the knockouts and that Jacquie was the better performer with Cee Lo loving how she belted her notes, and Adam shocked by her powerhouse vocals at the tender age of 16.
Coach Xtina felt that Anthony definitely did not do his best, even though they both tried to work the song to showcase his talent. She did feel, however, that Jacquie did an amazing job of showing off her big vocals. In the end, Christina went with Jacquie as she felt she could go further in the competition with the singer.
