Lina Gaudenzi Sings “I’d Rather Go Blind” by Etta James and Preston Pohl Sings “No Woman No Cry” by Bob Marley
On October 29, Team Adam Levine singers Lina Gaudenzi and Preston Pohl were paired to sing against one another on The Voice 2013 knockout rounds. Lina came out first with a rendition of the Etta James classic, “I’d Rather Go Blind.” The soul artist chose the song to show a more soulful, bluesy side to her voice. At rehearsals Adam thought that Lina “danced around” the song, instead of just sticking it, but Lina’s rendition had the coaches swaying in their seats and even got an “I love you!” out of coach Cee Lo Green!
Preston Pohl followed close behind with his rendition of legend Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry”. Preston chose that iconic reggae song because he wanted to show his more laid back side. Coach Blake Shelton immediately praised Preston for her reggae performance, though he loved the vast range that Lina showed in her choice. Cee Lo Green once again told Preston that his voice is definitely something he hasn’t heard before, while Lina’s song was well suited for her voice and personality. Christina Aguilera felt that Preston’s song choice didn’t allow for much expansion, while Lina’s song definitely made her presence clear. After much debate, Adam went with his “gut” and named Preston the winner.
