Matthew Schuler may go down in history as the fastest four-chair turn in The Voice history, but we’re banking on him having more claims to fame that that. In fact, we have good reason to believe he can make it to the very end! Why are we so sure Matthew has what it takes to bring Team Xtina into the winner’s circle?
Well, first and most obviously, it’s his attention-grabbing vocals. Matthew has the kind of voice that makes you sit up and pay attention. We were pounding the buttons on the armrests of our very own The Voice replica chairs along with the coaches, just two measures into his Blind Audition! But the fact that he continues to get better week after week makes us even more certain he has what it takes to win it all.
That brings us to our second point: his seemingly boundless potential. While Matthew slayed with Young the Giant’s “Cough Syrup” during the Blinds, it was his Knockout Round performance that, to our minds, solidified his place as a front-runner. Singing Florence and the Machine’s “Cosmic Love,” Matthew hit and sustained notes that would bring most vocalists to their knees — and yet he never seemed to approach the limit of his ability.
With his endless range, clarity of tone, and great looks, Matthew remind us of a couple past contestants who have done mighty well for themselves: Season 1 winner Javier Colon and Season 2 winner Jermaine Paul. While the last two seasons have gone the way of pretty girls with country twang — no disrespect whatsoever to Danielle Bradbery and Cassadee Pope! — we think Matthew’s blend of R&B and rock could be just the thing to dethrone Blake Shelton.
