The coaches of The Voice have joined together in a bit of Blake Shelton backlash this season. Jealous much? They gripe here and there about his three-win streak, and Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green even recently referred to him as “lazy” and “boastful.” As Cee Lo put it during an interview on the Today Show, “I think he got a little lazy, a little complacent.”
In the end, though, you don’t become the target of comments like this unless others see you as a threat, which Blake definitely is. The guy has got some serious sway when it comes to the voters. Right now, he’s riding the high of two huge wins at the CMAs for “Album Of The Year” and “Vocalist Of The Year”. Obviously, the people adore this guy, and not just for his irresistible dimples.
He’s also got a great backstory, as he’s married to another country fave — Miranda Lambert. And, despite any rumors to the contrary, Blake and Miranda are still going strong. He constantly gushes over his wife, who also just won a CMA, often. Together, they’re a tremendous power couple in entertainment.
Sure, Austin Jenckes saw his Voice dreams come to an end this past week, but Blake still has two serious contenders in Ray Boudreaux and Cole Vosbury. Ray has stellar vocals and an uber masculine stage presence (which doesn’t hurt with the ladies) while Cole has a signature raspy sound that captivates (especially when he goes acoustic).
Of course, song choice is crucial and, where other coaches have faltered in this area, Blake has a certain knack for guiding the singers on his team to pick winning songs. In the weeks to come, this will be particularly helpful in giving his singers the edge over frontrunners like Matthew Schuler and Tessanne Chin.
