Parting is such sweet sorrow, and it's gotten more and more sorrowful as the competition has gone on this season. Tonight, our Top 6 became our Top 5. Before delivering the bad news, however, we got some good: a live performance from Kelly Clarkson! The American Idol Season 1 winner performed a song from her new Christmas album, and we have to say, pregnancy really agrees with her, even if she's been having a lot of morning sickness. She looked and sounded amazing.

Tessanne Chin, Jacquie Lee, and Matthew Schuler then performed a cover of Florence and the Machine's "You've Got the Love", and it pains us to say the latter two were super pitchy (while Tessanne was her usual flawless self). We're guessing Team Christina was feeling the nerves, and their coach Christina certainly sounded like she was prepared for the worst. But one of them had nothing to worry about: Jacquie was the first artist sent to the semifinals.

After another Christmasy performance, this time by Blake Shelton and his Season 1 mentee Xenia, and some more confessions from the artists, Carson revealed the next artist safe from elimination: Team Blake's Cole Vosbury

Will, Cole, and James sang one of our favorite power ballads ("More Than Words") before Team Adam finally got some good news. Tessanne Chin was the third artist deemed safe for next week, followed by Will Champlin. And that wasn't the end of the good news for Adam Levine. James earned the Instant save, meaning it was time to say goodbye to Matthew.
