Last night, The Voice 2013 Season 5 Final 5 contestants — James Wolpert, Will Champlin, Jacquie Lee, Cole Vosbury, and Tessanne Chin — battled it out to advance to the finals, airing on Monday December 16. At this point, the competition is incredibly stiff and there’s no room for error. All the Voice contestants left their hearts out on the stage, but only a few exceeded the pack.
While U2’s “With or Without You” did complement James’s vocals last night, his teammate Will’s upbeat and perky attitude and passionate performance of “Carry On” by fun. won over the audience.
And though Blake Shelton and Christina Aguilera lone contestants Cole and Jacquie did well to show their vulnerability and impressive vocals, neither of them were able to outshine Tessanne’s performance of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” by Simon and Garfunkel.
The Jamaican powerhouse took the 1970 hit song, and not only gave it new life, but showed all facets of her sound and clinched it all by belting an extended note at the end. By the end of the performance, we were more sure than ever that Tessanne is a force to be reckoned with, and when we learned that the vocalist made it to #1 on the iTunes charts, we knew that we were looking at a woman destined to be a star.
