Reality shows tend to get a lot of crossover contestants and, what many James Wolpert fans on this season of The Voice may not have known is that the Harry Potter look-alike had been down this road before. The talented singer was on a (much!) lesser known show in 2008 called High School Musical: Get in the Picture.

The series featured teenage contestants who competed for a chance to sing the song over the closing credits of High School Musical 3: Senior Year. James made the Top 5 before being eliminated in the show’s 80’s themed episode.

File the video that has surfaced under “things James likely wishes never happened,” as it’s certainly a schmaltzy spectacle. It features The Voice’s third runner up –– who is hardly recognizable without his signature specs –– cleaning department store mannequins who suddenly come to life and begin to sing with him. The group performs a medley of many well-known TV theme songs that, despite your best intentions, might have you singing along as you watch.

While the video is a bit cringe-worthy, there’s no denying James had a bright future in the music industry even then. In fact, when he faced going home after being sick one week during Season 5, coach Adam Levine fought for him, saying, “I am going to beg you to save this kid. This guy is one of the best singers I have been in a room with.” That’s certainly high praise coming from the Maroon 5 frontman. More importantly, we hope James doesn’t go down the same path as High School Musical star Zac Efron, who's had more than his share of issues these days.
